KARACHI — A high-level delegation from Uzbekistan, led by Ambassador Alisher Takhataev, visited the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) on Wednesday to examine investment and partnership opportunities in Pakistan’s maritime sector. The visit marks an important stride toward strengthening maritime collaboration between the two countries.

During the visit, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, directed the KPT Transition Committee via a telephonic message to provide the delegation with a comprehensive briefing on the port’s infrastructure, ongoing projects, and potential avenues for joint ventures.

The minister underlined the significance of regional connectivity and economic cooperation, emphasizing that Pakistan’s blue economy had emerged as a key pillar of its economic framework. Collaborations with Central Asian nations, he noted, could further enhance this sector’s growth and resilience.

The Uzbek delegation, including senior representatives from the Uzbek Chamber of Commerce, received detailed presentations on crucial maritime initiatives such as port modernization, logistics, clean bulk cargo handling, and the development of the Maritime Business District. The delegation showed strong interest in participating, particularly in terminal operations and related investments.

Acknowledging Pakistan’s strategic location, the Uzbek visitors highlighted that ports like Karachi could serve as essential gateways to international markets for landlocked Central Asian nations, offering significant mutual economic advantages.

Later, the delegation visited South Asia Pakistan Terminal Limited, where they observed modern container-handling systems, crane operations, and the port’s high operational efficiency.

The visit not only highlighted the capabilities and infrastructure of Karachi Port but also served as a tangible step toward enhancing maritime ties and regional economic integration between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.
