Uzbek Envoy: PM Shehbaz’s Visit to Strengthen Bilateral Ties and Economic Cooperation

Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Alisher Tukhtaev, has emphasized that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to Uzbekistan will enhance political dialogue, build mutual trust, and result in the signing of key agreements.

Speaking to Dunyo Information Agency, the envoy highlighted that Uzbekistan and Pakistan’s strategic partnership has advanced significantly, with both nations actively collaborating within international organizations such as the UN, SCO, OIC, and ECO.

Expanding Economic and Trade Relations

Ambassador Tukhtaev outlined several economic initiatives, including:
✅ Transit trade development via the Karachi port
✅ Joint investment funds to enhance bilateral trade
✅ Infrastructure improvement and logistics centers
He noted that both sides are committed to fully implementing the Transit Trade and Preferential Trade Agreements, expanding the range of preferential products, and facilitating smoother trade and investment opportunities.

Growing Trade Volume

The trade turnover between Pakistan and Uzbekistan reached $404 million by the end of 2024, with efforts underway to increase it to $1 billion. Key focus areas include:
🔹 Agricultural exports: Uzbekistan aims to boost fruit, vegetable, and grain exports to Pakistan.
🔹 Pakistan’s strong industries: Pharmaceuticals, textiles, construction materials, and IT sectors offer promising opportunities.
🔹 Textile collaboration: Joint ventures could enhance competitiveness in global markets.
🔹 IT and digitization: Plans to establish IT centers, educational programs, and outsourcing services.

The envoy reaffirmed that cooperation in food security, trade, and technology would create new economic opportunities for both countries, positioning Uzbekistan and Pakistan as stronger regional trade partners.
