Uzbek Envoy Urges Stronger Tourism Cooperation with Pakistan at Roadshow 2025
Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Alisher Tukhtaev, has emphasized the enormous potential for tourism development between Uzbekistan and Pakistan, urging both nations to capitalize on their centuries-old historical, cultural, and religious ties to boost travel and people-to-people connections.
Addressing the “Uzbekistan Tourism Roadshow 2025” held in Islamabad, the ambassador noted that the longstanding bond between the two countries can serve as a strong foundation for growing bilateral tourism.
“Uzbekistan and Pakistan are united by shared values, history, and traditions. Cities like Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva resonate deeply with Pakistanis due to their Islamic heritage, much like the modern yet culturally rich city of Islamabad,” Ambassador Tukhtaev stated during his keynote speech.
He explained that these ancient Uzbek cities, known for their magnificent mosques, madrasas, and spiritual landmarks, once served as centers of Islamic knowledge and Sufi thought. “Visiting these historic places allows Pakistani tourists to reconnect with a shared past that dates back to the time of Amir Timur and Zahiriddin Babur,” he added.
Stronger Travel Links and Business Collaboration
Ambassador Tukhtaev also highlighted recent progress in easing travel between the two countries, citing simplified visa procedures and the availability of direct flights as key enablers for tourism growth.
“Both governments are committed to strengthening ties through tourism. Tour operators from both sides are collaborating more closely, and we encourage Pakistani investors to explore joint ventures in hospitality, transport, and cultural tourism,” he said.
He further invited travel agencies, entrepreneurs, and influencers to take advantage of emerging opportunities in Uzbekistan’s rapidly evolving tourism industry.
Uzbekistan: A Destination for All Travelers
The ambassador described Uzbekistan as an all-season destination offering diverse experiences—from historical exploration to adventure tourism and wellness retreats.
“Whether it’s exploring the ancient Silk Road cities or enjoying eco-tourism in our deserts, mountains, and green valleys, Uzbekistan offers something for every type of traveler,” he noted. He emphasized that destinations like the Kyzylkum Desert and the scenic Tien Shan mountains are ideal for hiking, camping, and outdoor adventures.
The envoy also highlighted the growing appeal of Uzbek cuisine, featuring dishes like palov, samsa, and shashlik, as a key attraction for visitors. He expressed interest in hosting food festivals that blend the culinary flavors of both nations.
Modernization and Sustainability in Tourism
Ambassador Tukhtaev revealed that the Uzbek government is investing heavily in tourism infrastructure—restoring heritage sites, improving road connectivity, and training hospitality professionals.
“Digital transformation is also a priority. We now offer virtual tours, smart travel platforms, and online booking systems to make tourism more accessible,” he said.
Importantly, the ambassador underscored Uzbekistan’s commitment to sustainable tourism practices. “We want to grow responsibly. Eco-friendly tourism is essential, and we welcome Pakistani partners to collaborate on green initiatives that preserve our environment while promoting cultural exchange,” he added.
A New Era of Tourism Cooperation
Concluding his address, Ambassador Tukhtaev called for deeper collaboration in the tourism sector and encouraged joint travel packages, cross-border events, and social media campaigns to attract a new wave of travelers from both countries.
We are ready to welcome more Pakistani visitors and open new chapters of cooperation that benefit our people and economies alike,” he concluded.
