Values Bilateral Relations with Pakistan and India, Syes U.S. State Department

The United States values its bilateral ties with both Pakistan and India, according to a statement from U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.

Commenting on the recent interaction between Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistani officials during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, Miller clarified that Washington maintains independent relationships with both nations.

“The scope and character of any dialogue between Pakistan and India are matters for them to determine,” Miller said, emphasizing that the U.S. does not play a role in setting the agenda for talks between the two countries.

The remarks followed Jaishankar’s visit to Islamabad to participate in the SCO summit, during which he attended a luncheon hosted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He also engaged in an informal discussion with Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar during the event.
