Vatican Envoy meeting with Minister Salik and discusses Interfaith Harmony and Religious Tolerance
Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, met with the Ambassador of Vatican City, Archbishop Germano Penemote, to discuss global religious intolerance, the fight against sectarianism, terrorism, and the promotion of interfaith harmony.
Minister Salik lauded Pope Francis for his principled stance on the Palestine issue, acknowledging his efforts in social and economic justice and humanitarian causes. He emphasized the crucial role of minorities in Pakistan’s progress, highlighting the government’s initiatives such as the National Commission for Minorities, the Interfaith Harmony Policy, and other measures aimed at empowering religious minorities politically, socially, and economically.
Archbishop Germano Penemote appreciated Pakistan’s commitment to religious harmony, noting that Catholic-led educational and healthcare projects in the country have significantly contributed to community welfare. He stressed the importance of love, equality, and tolerance in countering extremism.
During the meeting, the Vatican envoy invited Minister Salik to participate in an upcoming Global Interfaith Harmony Conference in Vatican City this March. The session concluded with a mutual commitment to strengthening cooperation in eradicating extremism and fostering peace.
