Venezuela Restricts Diplomatic Activities of Dutch, French, and Italian Embassies
The Venezuelan government has introduced stringent restrictions on diplomats from the Netherlands, France, and Italy, accusing these countries of engaging in “hostile actions” and supporting groups deemed “extremist.”
According to local reports, Caracas has demanded that these nations reduce the number of accredited diplomats in their respective embassies to a maximum of three within 48 hours. This move underscores Venezuela’s growing tensions with European countries it believes are undermining its sovereignty.
Foreign Minister Yvan Gil addressed the situation on Tuesday through a statement on Telegram, declaring, “Venezuela will continue to adopt measures aligned with international law to preserve its stability, sovereignty, and the peace achieved through its own efforts.”
Additionally, diplomats from the three countries are now required to obtain written approval from the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry for any travel beyond a 40-kilometer (25-mile) radius from Bolívar Square in Caracas.
Gil emphasized Venezuela’s commitment to protecting its autonomy, asserting, “We demand respect for our sovereignty and self-determination, particularly from nations that align themselves with Washington’s directives.”
This latest diplomatic action reflects ongoing disputes between Venezuela and several Western nations over issues of governance, human rights, and foreign influence in the region.
