WASHINGTON — The White House confirmed on Thursday that President Donald Trump is expected to make a decision within the next two weeks on whether the United States will enter the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.
Amid rising regional tensions and continued Israeli airstrikes on Iranian targets, White House Press Secretary Jenna Ellis stated that President Trump is “carefully evaluating the evolving situation,” while staying in close consultation with allies and military advisors.
“President Trump has been fully briefed on the regional security dynamics, and a decision will be made based on U.S. national interests, the safety of American personnel, and the broader goal of regional stability,” Ellis said during a press briefing.
The announcement follows five days of tit-for-tat strikes between Israel and Iran, raising fears of a broader war that could draw in other global powers.
Earlier this week, Trump posted on Truth Social that Iran was testing U.S. patience, asserting that the U.S. knows the location of Iran’s Supreme Leader and issuing a call for Tehran’s “unconditional surrender.” However, he stopped short of signaling immediate military action.
Despite escalating rhetoric, U.S. intelligence assessments have indicated that Iran is not actively building a nuclear weapon, according to Senator Mark Warner, Vice Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
U.S. allies in Europe and the Middle East, along with members of Congress, are closely watching the administration’s next moves. A military escalation could reshape the balance of power across the region, experts warn, especially if Iran retaliates against American assets.
The Pentagon has increased readiness levels in the Gulf, but officials stress that a military intervention will only occur if diplomatic off-ramps fail.
