WHO Chief Calls for End to Israel’s Aid Blockade on Gaza
Report By Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has strongly condemned Israel’s ongoing blockade of humanitarian aid to Gaza, stressing that it must come to an end immediately. His comments come as medical supplies in the war-torn region continue to dwindle.
With the World Food Programme (WFP) also confirming that its stocks have been exhausted due to the blockade, Ghebreyesus issued a stark warning that Gaza is facing an escalating crisis. On social media platform X, the WHO chief emphasized that “the situation is the same with medical supplies. They are running out.”
“This aid blockade must end. Lives depend on it,” Ghebreyesus wrote.
Humanitarian Crisis Deepens in Gaza
The ongoing blockade, which has lasted for over seven weeks, has left essential resources, including food and medical supplies, in critically short supply. The lack of international aid into Gaza has severely impacted the ability to provide basic healthcare and emergency assistance, further compounding the already dire humanitarian situation.
The WHO has repeatedly called for unimpeded access to Gaza for humanitarian aid, particularly given the deteriorating health conditions caused by the conflict. The organization’s warnings have intensified as reports of growing medical shortages and the collapse of healthcare systems in Gaza surface.
Global Appeals for Humanitarian Action
The WHO’s appeal for the blockade to be lifted echoes widespread international concern over the humanitarian impact of the ongoing conflict. Human rights organizations and governments worldwide have voiced their alarm over the situation, calling for immediate steps to ensure the safe delivery of aid to those in need.
