World Bank’s New Country Director Meets Ahsan Iqbal to Strengthen Development Partnership
Bolorma Amgaabazar, recently appointed as the World Bank’s Country Director for Pakistan, held a key meeting with Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, to reinforce ongoing development cooperation and discuss future priorities.
Minister Ahsan Iqbal extended a warm welcome to Ms. Amgaabazar and appreciated Mr. Benhassine’s efforts in supporting Pakistan’s development initiatives. He expressed hope that under the new leadership, the partnership between Pakistan and the World Bank would reach new heights, especially in alignment with the country’s long-term economic vision.
Highlighting the government’s major development strategy, Ahsan Iqbal introduced the URAAN Pakistan initiative, a transformative framework targeting economic growth by 2047. He emphasized that URAAN is built on the “5Es” – Exports, E-Pakistan, Environment & Climate Resilience, Energy & Infrastructure, and Equity, Ethics & Empowerment. He noted that the initiative focuses on inclusive growth, efficient governance, and institutional reform in response to evolving global challenges.
The Planning Minister also announced plans to revive the Pakistan Development Forum later this year as a platform for strategic dialogue with development partners. The forum will be aligned with the World Bank’s business planning cycle, ensuring stronger coordination and better outcomes.
