Xi Jinping Begins Four-Day Visit to Russia Amid Ukrainian Drone Strikes on Moscow
Report By Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in Moscow for a four-day official visit, coinciding with intensified Ukrainian drone attacks on the Russian capital ahead of the country’s Victory Day commemorations.
President Xi is scheduled to attend the annual Victory Day military parade on Red Square, which marks the Soviet Union’s triumph over Nazi Germany in World War II. During the visit, he will also hold high-level talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, reinforcing the strategic partnership between the two nations.
The visit comes just hours after Moscow was targeted by a large-scale Ukrainian drone offensive. According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, Russian air defense forces intercepted and destroyed at least 19 drones overnight. The attacks caused significant disruptions, including the temporary closure of major Moscow airports and forced adjustments by national airline Aeroflot.
The situation prompted the diversion of at least one incoming foreign delegation. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s flight was rerouted to Baku, Azerbaijan, due to security concerns arising from the drone strikes.
Despite the heightened tensions and logistical challenges, Xi’s presence in Russia underscores China’s continued diplomatic support and signals growing alignment with Moscow amid global geopolitical shifts.
