Yemeni Forces Launch Missile and Drone Attack on U.S. Aircraft Carrier in the Red Sea
Yemen’s Armed Forces have claimed responsibility for launching a missile and drone attack on a U.S. aircraft carrier, USS Harry S. Truman, stationed in the Red Sea.
According to a statement released Friday by Brigadier General Yahya Saree, the spokesperson for the Yemeni military, the naval forces, missile units, and drone squadrons jointly executed the operation as a defensive measure against what they described as “enemy aggression.”
“This marks the second direct confrontation with enemy warships in less than 24 hours,” Saree said. “The operation successfully disrupted two planned aerial assaults on Yemen, neutralizing them before they could be executed.”
The statement also emphasized that Yemen’s military response is part of its continued resistance to foreign intervention and a warning to any hostile military buildup in the region.
The attack comes amid rising tensions in the Red Sea, a vital route for global shipping and energy supplies. Yemeni forces—aligned with the Houthi movement—have increased strikes in recent months against what they call “foreign occupation forces,” prompting concerns from international maritime and security organizations.
As of this report, the United States government has not issued an official statement regarding the alleged attack. However, the U.S. military has previously reinforced its naval presence in the Red Sea to deter attacks on commercial and military vessels.
Defense analysts warn that continued hostilities could destabilize the entire Middle East, disrupt global trade routes, and lead to broader military escalations. The Red Sea remains a critical chokepoint, and any prolonged conflict in the region could have significant global economic implications.
