Zelenskyy Claims Over 150 Chinese Nationals Fighting for Russia in Ukraine, China Denies Allegation
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has alleged that at least 155 Chinese nationals are currently fighting alongside Russian forces in the ongoing war in Ukraine. The statement has sparked immediate denial and pushback from Beijing, which labeled the claim as “absolutely groundless.”
Speaking during a televised address, President Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine’s intelligence services had confirmed the presence of Chinese fighters supporting Russian military operations. “We have verified data indicating the participation of foreign nationals in Russia’s war effort—including no fewer than 155 Chinese citizens,” Zelenskyy said, without providing further details or evidence.
China swiftly responded to the allegation through its foreign ministry. In a statement issued in Beijing, the ministry said, “The claim that Chinese citizens are engaged in the Ukraine conflict is entirely unfounded and lacks any credible basis. China firmly adheres to a policy of neutrality in the conflict and opposes the involvement of any foreign parties.”
Beijing reiterated its call for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, urging all sides to return to diplomatic channels. “Spreading misinformation will not help end the war,” the statement added.
