Ambassador of Zimbabwe to Pakistan, Abu-Basutu, hosted a grand reception in Islamabad to mark Zimbabwe’s Independence Day, ushering in what officials described as a “new era” of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

Held at a prestigious hotel in the federal capital, the celebration drew a distinguished audience, including senior Pakistani government officials, diplomats, business leaders, and members of the Zimbabwean community in Pakistan.

A Milestone in Zimbabwe-Pakistan Relations

In his keynote address, Ambassador Abu-Basutu emphasized the historical significance of Zimbabwe’s independence and underscored the strong bonds of solidarity with Pakistan.

“This day is not just a celebration of our sovereignty, but a reminder of our shared vision for peace, development, and mutual respect,” he stated. “Pakistan has been a valuable partner, and we look forward to enhancing collaboration across trade, education, agriculture, and cultural exchange.”

High-Level Representation from Pakistan

Pakistan’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, senior diplomats from the Ministry of Commerce, and parliamentary dignitaries were present, reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Harare.

A government spokesperson hailed the event as a reflection of Zimbabwe’s growing diplomatic engagement in South Asia and praised the ambassador’s proactive role in fostering bilateral cooperation.

Focus on Trade and Development

The reception also featured discussions on expanding trade relations and investment opportunities. Officials from both countries expressed interest in joint ventures in textiles, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture, areas where Zimbabwe sees Pakistan as a key partner.

Cultural Performances and Diplomatic Unity

The ceremony included cultural performances, traditional cuisine, and a showcase of Zimbabwean heritage, drawing applause from attendees. The event ended with a call for unity among African and South Asian nations to work together for regional peace and prosperity.
